Introduction
The Editing and
Design Branch is the publishing arm of the History
Division and also operates the Marine Corps
University Press and Marine Corps University
Journal.
The branch handles
all facets in preparing History Division publications
for print. The editors ensure compliance with the
History Division Writing Guide and edit for
clarity of expression as well as spelling,
punctuation, and style. The editorial staff also
fact-checks where needed, which includes
verification of places names and names and ranks of
Marines mentioned in the text. The visual
information specialists design the books and produce
illustrations to support the publications, including
maps and charts. The editors then proof the text and
index the books. The branch staff also serves as the
editorial and production staff for
Fortitudine, the bulletin of the Marine Corps
Historical Program.
In addition to their
work on History Division publications, the Editing
and Design staff operates a scholarly press,
Marine Corps University Press, and a
peer-reviewed academic journal,
Marine Corps University Journal. The staff
actively seeks book and article manuscripts to
publish, edits them for print, and designs the
products.
