Officer Professional Military Education
Adjunct Faculty

Our adjunct faculty members are contracted personnel who conduct the Officer PME distance education seminar programs. These programs are evening seminars that support both the Command and Staff College Distance Education Program and the Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program. We draw the majority of our adjunct faculty from the fleet so they may bring their vast operational experience and training to enhance our DEP seminars. Our adjunct faculty members are located at major bases and stations worldwide and are frequently in contact with the operating forces; thus, they are very much attuned to the realities of what is happening in the fleet.

Listed below are some of the qualifications for our adjunct faculty:

  1. Possess a degree in education, history, international relations, or national security/strategic studies (specific degree requirements may be waived depending on the applicant's other qualifications).
  2. Have knowledge of, and experience in, military subject matter within the CDET curriculum.
  3. Have knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of the case study method; experience in seminar leadership, public speaking, war-gaming, and other techniques of instruction suitable for teaching mid-grade professional military officers.
  4. Be a graduate of the appropriate career, intermediate, or senior level school.
  5. Have knowledge of the background and development of American military policy from the colonial era to the present, including policies relating to the Marine Corps and other services.
  6. Additional desired competencies:
    1. Organization and planning skills
    2. Competence in seminar facilitation
    3. Student evaluation and assessment skills

If you are interested in becoming a CDET adjunct faculty member for either the CSCDEP or EWSDEP, contact your nearest Regional Coordinator or the CDET Dean of Academics.

Course Directors

The CDET course directors are comprised of an experienced group of professionals with a unique blend of academic expertise and operational experience. This diverse group includes military, civilian, and government subject matter experts. They are supported by a network of military and civilian adjunct faculty who serve as seminar leaders for our Distance Education Programs worldwide.

The CDET course directors are located aboard the Quantico main campus and are collocated with the resident faculty of both the Command and Staff College and the Expeditionary Warfare School. This collocation allows for greater interaction and coordination between these two organizations. The intent is to create an academic synergy so that the distance education programs are more closely derived from and parallel to the resident programs.

Faculty Development

To keep our adjunct faculty current on the latest issues or changes in the CDET officer distance education programs, the CDET offers a password-controlled faculty development site.
